The Walk
A remembered coastline at the moment light gives up — the painting the studio is named for.
Cold-wax layers sanded to a fog; the sea as it feels from a warm room.
Fourth in an ongoing series painted only on days the barometer falls.
A portrait of the artist's grandfather, built from the maps he drew.

Into The Studio
“A painting is finished when it stops being an image and starts being a place.”
— Elias Voss
Elias Voss paints the space where memory blurs into landscape — horizons that never existed, remembered light, weather as emotion.
Trained as an architectural draftsman before turning fully to painting, his work carries a draftsman's structure beneath expressive, layered oil surfaces.
Each canvas is built over weeks: grounds of raw umber, veils of translucent color, and finally the single decisive gesture the whole painting waits for.
The Process
Ground
Every canvas begins in darkness — layered umber grounds that give later light something to push against.
Veil
Ten to thirty translucent glazes, each dried and sanded, until color seems to come from inside the surface.
Gesture
The final marks are made in minutes — one chance, full arm, no corrections.
